::: Damn, It Is America's Faith Based Idiot :::
Well, I did notice Bush was on the TV, but he is ALWAYS on the TV.
But I perked up when I heard him say:
You know, look, in my line of work, it's always best to produce results.
And I understand that.
I could not fathom the POTUS would say "in my line of work."
So even though my mom had just stopped by to visit my heard of cats, I did
stand in front of the idiot box (never was that reference more appropriate)
for a few minutes, watching him alternately shuffling his feet while biting his
inner cheek and then he would puff up like a fucking parrot, while spouting
Texasisms.

whatever the guy's name was. (Laughter.) Sorry, Ramzi, if I got it wrong.
(Laughter.) Binalshibh, excuse me. Swift Sword is dead, thanks to the

::: Rush Limbaugh Says Dead American Boys Are No Big Deal :::
One would think that the death of American soldiers in Iraq would bode ill for Bush and his administration. Not so, counters apologist Rush Limbaugh:
"Folks, we're getting a daily death update out of Iraq, and we're hearing slogans like, ‘One a day,’ and ‘Our troops are being slaughtered,’ from the Democrats, as their willing accomplices in the press try to concoct this notion that the casualty rate over there is outrageous and intolerable. The following statistics come from the Centers for Disease Control website: On a daily basis, on average, 10 Americans die by drowning, and nine Americans die by fire in their homes. 14 Americans die by pedestrian accidents. 27 Americans die in falls. On average, 50 Americans a day are murdered. 118 die in auto accidents, and 25 people die from A.I.D.S. every day, on average. Yesterday, two Americans died in battle in Iraq."
In short, Rush would have us believe these dead American boys are no big deal.

An old Roman maxim states, “Let justice be done though the heavens fall.” There is no justice in all this, and the heavens are falling. God better get on the ball here and give George some better directions.

The Office of Special Plans (OSP) :::
OR ::: Oily, Sleazie Snakes (OSS)
IraqGate, WeaponsGate, IntelGate, FishTale, TailGate ... whatever name you hang
on it, Bush Junta still spells Screw The American People and Screw Iraq!
Pitt always tells it like it is
In this case, Crime is worse than the Cover-Up.
Jus a few points and you can click the above link for a great article:
The simple fact is that America went to war in Iraq because George W. Bush,
Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and virtually every
other public face within this administration vowed that Iraq had vast stockpiles of
chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. America went to war because these
people vowed that Iraq had direct connections to al Qaeda, and by inference
to the attacks of September 11.
In his article on TruthOut, William Rivers Pitt enumerates by date a few of the
statements that stoked fears within an already shellshocked American
populace that Iraqi nuclear weapons and anthrax would come raining out of
the sky at any moment.
Pitt points out this same information was delivered in dire tones to Congress,
which voted for war on Iraq based almost exclusively on the testimony of CIA
Director, George Tenet.
The intel was baseless, bogus, forged and simply manufactured,
manipulated, hyped, exaggerated, embroidered, embellished, fudged,
sexed-up, magnified, overcharged, overstated, padded, stretched,
and dressed in a Poodle Skirt by Rumsfeld's Office of Special Plans.
By the way, OSP is Rumsfeld's own intelligence org, created by the
Pentagon, of the Pentagon and for the Pentagon.
Ok, take the Yellow-Cake Fudge .... obvious to any fool on ice skates ~ LIE
OSP, staffed by rank ameteurs, was created by Rumsfeld and his
cabal of hawks to reinterpret, second-guess, i.e. trump-up, whatever
intel did not suit their war-mongering purposes.
OSP, is not paid by our government (kinda reminds you of The Federal
Reserve, doesn't it?) not subject to any oversight, still prevailed over
the data being handed down by the State Dept and the CIA, a feat
attributed to our gracious and (self-enriching) Vice President, Cheney.
The highest levels of the OSP were staffed by heavy-hitters like Undersecretary
of Defense for Policy Douglas J. Feith, and William Luti, a former Navy officer who
worked for Cheney before joiningthe Pentagon. These two men, along with their
civilian advisors, worked according to a strategy that they hoped would recreate
Iraq into anIsraeli ally, destroy a potential threat to Persian Gulf oil trade, and
wrap U.S. allies around Iran. The State Department and CIA saw this plan as
being badly flawed and based upon profoundly questionable intelligence. The
OSP responded to these criticisms by cutting State and CIA completely out of the
loop. By the time the war came, nearly all the data used to justify the action to
the American people was coming from the OSP. The American intelligence community
had been totally usurped.
When the OSP wanted to change or exaggerate evidence of Iraqi weapons
capabilities, they sent Vice President Cheney to CIA headquarters on un-
precedented visits where he demanded "forward-leaning" interpretations
of the evidence. When Cheney was unable to go to the CIA, his chief of staff,
Lewis "Scooter" Libby, went in his place.
On three occasions, former congressman Newt Gingrich visited CIA in
his capacity as a "consultant" for ultra-conservative hawk Richard Perle
and his Defense Policy Board. According to the accounts of these visits,
Gingrich browbeat the analysts to toughen up their assessments of the
dangers posed by Hussein. He was allowed access to the CIA and
the analysts because he was a known emissary of the OSP.
Alrighty then ::: Just one more or maybe two little items.
Gonna let you guys go to the article for the ridiculous facts on the appointment of
Chalabi. This Bloggosphile has never witnessed such arrogance in an admin-
istration, not even Nixons! For full article, see above link.
Here are a few tidbits discovered by Jodie Evans, an organizer for International
Occupation Watch Center (IOWC) from Pitt's article:
This is too amazing to be believed and is really a stomach churner. As the
resident Conspiracy Theorist, I will forward this observation. If the
agenda of the NWO folks (Bush and Cabal and most of the rest of DC)
really is to promote destabilization around the world, well, damn if they
are not just top notch at it.
I spoke last week with a woman named Jodie Evans, long-time peace
activist and organizer of a group called the International Occupation Watch
Center, or IOWC. The purpose of the IOWC is to stand as watchdogs in
Iraq over the corporate contracts being doled out, and to view in person
what is happening to the Iraqi people. "I think that if you were against
the war, then you need to be there," said Evans, "because there is no
one in Iraq who is for the Iraqi people, and the people know it. They
know it."
Evans had just returned from Baghdad. Upon her arrival to the city, she saw the
demonstrable chaos caused by the war, and by the abject failure to repair the
country in the aftermath. "It was 120 degrees, it was dusty, the air had a haze
that makes everything gray," said Evans. "The buildings you see on the road
are bombed out. In some, you can see the fire coming up. In some, you only see
the scaffolding of contorted metal. We got across our bridge and turned right
onto the street we know so well, the one we've stayed on, and every building
was either boarded up or bombed out, including the United Nations DP. It was
all bombed in, the windows were black from the fire."
"Immediately after we arrived," said Evans, "we hear that it is not only worse
than before the war. It is worse than during the war. People are upset, people
are angry. There were lots of stories about how the Americans are doing this
on purpose. A month after the '91 war, which was much worse than this one,
everything was back and working. Now, the people live in this chaos they can't
even imagine. People can't go outside. Women haven't left their homes. Lots
of people haven't come back from Syria or Kuwait or wherever they fled to
get away from the bombing, because life in Iraq is unlivable. There is 65%
unemployment, and even the doctors and nurses and teachers who are going
to work don't get paid, so there's no money.
Evans met a number of Americans in Iraq who are part of the 'rebuilding
process.' One such person was in the Compound, a guarded palace that
is now home to Bremer's office and staff along with a number of other groups.
The overall organization is called the Iraqi Assistance Center, or IAC. The
man Evans met was a professor of religion and political theory at a religious
college in America. He explained that his job was to collect intelligence for
Bremer."That professor I spoke to, the one doing intelligence for Bremer,
I told him that I had spoken to countless Iraqis and all of them felt this
chaos was happening on purpose," said Evans. "He basically said
this was true, that chaos was good, and out of chaos comes order.
So what the Iraqis were saying - that this madness was all on purpose -
this intelligence guy didn't discredit. He said, 'If you keep them hungry,
they'll do anything for us.'"
"I met the man who was hired to create a new civil government in Baghdad,
to bring Baghdad back to order," said Evans. "His name was Gerald Lawson.
I asked him what his background was that allowed him to get this job. He
said he was in the Atlanta Police for 30 years. I asked how this gave him
the ability to create a stable, civilgovernment. He said he was a manager.
I asked him what he knew about Iraqis. He knew nothing, and didn't
care to know anything. He didn't know their history, their government,
didn't speak a word of Arabic and didn't care to learn. This guy doesn't
work for the American government, doesn't work for the State Department,
and doesn't work for the CPA. He works for a corporation created by ex-
Generals. Their job is to create the new Iraqi government structure."
"We met the man whose job is to make sure the hospitals have what
they need," said Evans. "He is a veterinarian. We met a British guy who
showed up at the Compound gates one day and said he was a volunteer
who wanted to help. The next day he was named the head of rubbish
control in Baghdad, which is a huge problem there because there is
garbage all over the street. I asked him what he had been doing with
his time. He said he'd been hanging out at Odai's palace playing with the
lions and the cheetahs. I met the guy in charge of designing the airport,
where major jumbo jets are supposed to land. He had never designed
an airport before."
"Another man I spoke to associated with this process is named Don
Munson," said Evans. "His job is civilian affairs policy. He said to me, 'We
are replacing one dictatorship with another. ' He's there for two years,
and he works in the palace on the first floor."
"Remember," said Evans, "that the first thing America did was to fire
80,000 police officers. These guys weren't associated with the Hussein
regime. That's like connecting a cop in LA to the Bush administration.
All the people I've talked to over there, the ambassadors and others,
said they warned Bremer not to do that. The cops knew who the
criminals were, and 80,000 cops are gone. So now there are these little
mafias that run neighborhoods. With no other work and no way to survive,
people are going to become criminals. The borders are wide open - we
didn't even get stopped when we came in - so everything is just flowing
into Iraq."
"A friend of mine's husband is an ambassador," said Evans. "I asked
him if this was normal operating procedure. He said that, basically, no
one will work on this Iraq project who has any respect for their work
or career, because it is so clearly a farce. He said that later we will
go in after these guys have blown it, but right now with Bremer
there it is a farce. Even the press is over there are just shaking
their heads and asking, can anyone fail so badly? Can anybody make
so many mistakes? You can't imagine they can be so dumb."
"One Iraqi woman I spoke to," said Evans, "said she feels like Iraq is
a wounded animal, and everyone is coming in to take their piece of
flesh."
The cover-up is one thing, the crime is another. The Bush administration,
mainly in the form of Rumsfeld's Office of Special Plans, disregarded any
and all intelligence which said Iraq was no threat. They supplanted
reliable data with a slew of lies and exaggerations that were fed daily
to the American people and Congress, and got their war. In the
aftermath, nothing is being done for the millions of Iraqi civilians who
suffer daily under their newfound 'liberty.'
American soldiers continue to die. Two more, men from the 101st
Airborne, were killed early Sunday when their convoy was attacked
with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. "You have these
young American soldiers sitting in turrets," said Jodie Evans,
"just sitting ducks for the rage and frustration and vengeance that
is coming out."
This is a crime without peer in the annals of American history.
The cover-up currently underway must not be allowed to succeed.
So there you have it ... the grand Liberation of Iraq :::
and Today I finally understand why "they" HATE US.
Sorry that was quite afew more points than I intended to make

Thousands of Microbiologists Changing Professions!
Well, wouldn't you?
Strange happenings:
The Very Mysterious Deaths
Of Five Microbiologists
By Ian Gurney
www.caspro.com
12-20-1
It is a story worthy of a major conspiracy theory, the script for a Mel Gibson "Who dunnit?" action movie, or a blueprint for a contrived and unbeleivable episode of "The X Files". Except the facts surrounding this story are just that. Facts. The Truth. Five emminent microbiologists, leaders in their particular field of scientific research, either dead or missing in the last eight weeks, and a bizzare connection between one of the dead scientists and the mystery surrounding the death by Anthrax inhalation of a sixty one year old female hospital worker in New York. Sounds far fetched? Read on.
Over the past few weeks several world-acclaimed scientific researchers specializing in infectious diseases and biological agents such as Anthrax, as well as DNA sequencing, have been found dead or have gone missing.
First, on Novemeber 12th, was Dr. Benito Que, a cell biologist working on infectious diseases like HIV, who was found dead outside his laboratory at the Miami Medical School. Police say his death was possibly the result of a mugging. The Miami Herald reported that:
"The incident, whatever it may have been, occurred on Monday afternoon as the scientist left his job at University of Miami's School of Medicine. He headed for his car, a white Ford Explorer parked on Northwest 10th Avenue. The word among his friends is that four men armed with a baseball bat attacked him at his car."
On November 16th, within of week of Dr. Que's assault, Dr. Don C Wiley, one of the United States foremost infectious disease researchers was declared missing. Bill Poovey, a journalist with Associated Press wrote:
"His rental car was found with a full tank of petrol and the keys in the ignition. His disappearance looked like a suicide, but according to colleagues and Dr. Wiley's family, the Harvard Scientist associated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute would NEVER commit suicide. Associates who attended the St. Jude's Children Research Advisory Dinner with Dr. Wiley, just hours before he disappeared, said that he was in good spirits and NOT depressed. He was last seen at the banquet at the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis the night he vanished. Those who saw him last say he showed no signs of a man contemplating his own death."
Wiley left the hotel around midnight. The bridge where his car was found is only a five-minute drive away and in the wrong direction from where he was staying, leaving authorities with a four-hour, unexplained gap until his vehicle was found.
Now Memphis police are exploring several theories involving suicide, robbery and murder.
"We began this investigation as a missing person investigation," said Walter Crews of the Memphis Police Department. "From there it went to a more criminal bent."
Dr. Wiley was an expert on how the human immune system fights off infections and had recently investigated such dangerous viruses as AIDS, Ebola, herpes and influenza.
From the United States, the story moves to England. On November 23rd, Dr. Vladimir Pasechnik, a former microbiologist for Biopreparat, the Soviet biological-weapons production facility was found dead. The Times was the only newspaper to provide an obituary for Dr. Pasechnik, and said:
"The defection to Britain in 1989 of Vladimir Pasechnik revealed to the West for the first time the colossal scale of the Soviet Union's clandestine biological warfare programme. His revelations about the scale of the Soviet Union's production of such biological agents as anthrax, plague, tularaemia and smallpox provided an inside account of one of the best kept secrets of the Cold War. After his defection he worked for ten years at the U.K. Department of Health's Centre for Applied Microbiology Research before forming his own company, Regma Biotechnics, to work on therapies for cancer, neurological diseases, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. In the last few weeks of his life he had put his research on anthrax at the disposal of the Government, in the light of the threat from bioterrorism."
Back to the United States, and on December 10th, Dr. Robert M. Schwartz was found murdered in Leesberg, Virginia. Dr. Schwartz was a well-known DNA sequencing researcher. He founded the Virginia Biotechnology Association where he worked on DNA sequencing for 15 years.
On Wednesday, December 12th the Washington Post reported:
"A well-known biophysicist, who was one of the leading researchers on DNA sequencing analysis, was found slain in his rural Loudoun County home after co-workers became concerned when he didn't arrive at work as expected. Robert M. Schwartz, 57, a founding member of the Virginia Biotechnology Association, was found dead in the secluded fieldstone farmhouse southwest of Leesburg where he lived alone. Loudoun sheriff's officials said it appeared that Schwartz had been stabbed."
And so to Victoria State, Australia, where, on December 14th, a skilled microbiologist was killed at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation's animal diseases facility in Geelong, Australia. This is the same facility that, as the journal Nature announced in January this year:
"Australian scientists, Dr Ron Jackson and Dr Ian Ramshaw, accidentally created an astonishingly virulent strain of mousepox, a cousin of smallpox, among laboratory mice. They realised that if similar genetic manipulation was carried out on smallpox, an unstoppable killer could be unleashed."
The microbiologist who died had worked for 15 years at the facility. His name was Set Van Nguyen. Victoria Police said:
"Set Van Nguyen, 44, appeared to have died after entering an airlock into a storage laboratory filled with nitrogen. His body was found when his wife became worried after he failed to return from work. He was killed after entering a low temperature storage area where biological samples were kept. He did not know the room was full of deadly gas which had leaked from a liquid nitrogen cooling system. Unable to breathe, Mr. Nguyen collapsed and died."
Now for the intriguing part of this story. On Friday, November 2nd, the Washington Post reported:
"Officials are now scrambling to determine how a quiet, 61-year-old Vietnamese immigrant, riding the subway each day to and from her job in a hospital stockroom, was exposed to the deadly anthrax spores that killed her this week. They worry because there is no obvious connection to the factors common to earlier anthrax exposures and deaths: no clear link to the mail or to the media."
The name of this quiet 61 year old hospital worker was Kathy Nguyen.

According to The Campaign for Radical Truth in History: Fortean Studies and the Occult Cryptocracy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conspiracy didn't kill eleven microbiologists, just coincidence --a case of "random clumping" and death by "roadway bounce"
September 2002
Excerpts:
Don Wiley's body was finally found on Dec. 20, near Vidalia, La., about 300 miles south of where he disappeared. The Memphis medical examiner, O.C. Smith, concluded that yellow paint marks on Wiley's car suggest that he hit a construction sign on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge, as does the fact that a hubcap was missing from the right front tire. Smith's theory is that heavy truck traffic on the bridge can set off wind gusts and create ''roadway bounce,'' which might have been enough to cause Wiley to lose his balance after getting out of the car to inspect the scrapes....''If Dr. Wiley were on the curb trying to assess damage to his car, all of these factors may have played a role in his going over the rail,'' Smith said when he issued his report. The Memphis Police consider the case closed..The talk of Memphis at the moment is the bizarre ambush of the city's coroner last month. He was wrapped in barbed wire and left lying in a stairwell of the medical examiner's building with a live bomb strapped to his chest. Coincidentally, that coroner, O.C. Smith, was also the coroner who did the much-awaited, somewhat controversial autopsy on Don Wiley.
In more ordinary times, this cluster of deaths might not have been noticed, but these are not ordinary times...we are spooked and startled by stories like these - all these scientists dying within months of one another... The stories of these dozen or so deaths started out as a curiosity and were transformed rumor by rumor into the specter of conspiracy as they circulated first on the Internet and then in the mainstream media. What are the odds, after all? What are the odds, indeed?
For this is not about conspiracy but about coincidence...The true meaning of the word is 'a surprising concurrence of events, perceived as meaningfully related, with no apparent causal connection.' In other words, pure happenstance. Yet by merely noticing a coincidence, we elevate it to something that transcends its definition as pure chance. We are discomforted by the idea of a random universe...John Allen Paulos (is) a professor of mathematics at Temple University. Finding a reason or a pattern where none actually exists ''makes it less frightening,'' he says, because events get placed in the realm of the logical. ''Believing in fate, or even conspiracy, can sometimes be more comforting than facing the fact that sometimes things just happen.'' In the past year there has been plenty of conspiracy, of course, but also a lot of things have ''just happened.''
The numbers 9/11 (9 plus 1 plus 1) equal 11, and American Airlines Flight 11 was the first to hit the twin towers, and there were 92 people on board (9 plus 2), and Sept. 11 is the 254th day of the year (2 plus 5 plus 4), and there are 11 letters each in ''Afghanistan,'' ''New York City'' and ''the Pentagon'' (and while we're counting, in George W. Bush), and the World Trade towers themselves took the form of the number 11, this seeming numerical message is not actually a pattern that exists but merely a pattern we have found...
Recall, for example, the list of coincidences that...linked the deaths of Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy. It goes, in part, like this: The two men were elected 100 years apart; they were both succeeded by men named Johnson; and the two Johnsons were born 100 years apart. Their names each contain seven letters; their successors' names each contain 13 letters; and their assassins' names each contain 15 letters. Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran to a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran to a theater. Lincoln was shot in a theater named Ford. Kennedy was shot in a Ford automobile named Lincoln. Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln (Evelyn Lincoln) who warned him not to go to Dallas
Paul Sieveking...co-editor of Fortean Times...''the Journal of Strange Phenomena''...Sieveking says: ''It's probably just a random clumping, but it just happens to look significant. ...conspiracy theorists are just frustrated novelists. We like to make up a good story out of random facts.''

A senior officer said a knife and a packet of painkillers had been found close to where his body
was discovered in woodland near his home in Oxfordshire on Friday.
Dr Kelly's family said he was a "loving, private and dignified" man, adding that recent events
had made his life "intolerable". Kelly Family Statement in Full
The government will now hold an independent judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The prime minister has faced tough questions over the government's handling of the affair.
He was asked if he had Dr Kelly's death on his conscience during a press conference in Hakone, Japan - the first leg of his Far East tour.
But Mr Blair would only express his "deep sorrow" for Dr Kelly and his family and said: "I don't think it is right for anyone, ourselves or anybody else, to make a judgment until we have the facts."

And ::: Another Thing :::
Since Granny is a Pharmacy Tech, she has an opportunity to gain a special understanding
of how far the pharmaceutical companies will go to screw America.
Recently, we were offered Ciprofloxin as a branded generic ... made by Bayer and bottled
by Barr. And the price ... $30 less than the brand!
I consider that a shameful way to take advantage of Americans, but the DrugSpike is
jammed so deep in our feeble brains, most of us are thrilled the generic is out. It will
probably mean the insurance companies will charge the "generic copay" (we hope),
but they are right up there with the insurance companies on the slickness scale, so
Granny would not count on it.
We'd better all get our ducks taped

India Offers $1 Million in Cipro Free ::: But :::
T. Thompson "pays it forward" to the Drug Mfgs

Letter to Health and Human Services Sec. Tommy Thompson
by Laura Flanders
Dear Mr. Secretary,
Congratulations on your deal with the Bayer Corporation of Germany. The newspapers all seem very excited. You got Bayer to give you a cut price on their famous anti-anthrax drug, Cipro. Bayer has agreed to sell the administration 100 million tablets at 95 cents a piece, instead of their usual $4.67 a pill. Congress will only be paying Bayer $95 million, instead of almost half a billion dollars. That's great!
I did have one question. It's about India. Last week, the government of India offered to give the United States $1 million worth of generic Cipro as a gift to help us with the anthrax scare. That would buy some 10 million tablets in India, where Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals sells their version of the same antibiotic for around 10 cents a pill. Ten million tablets could treat more than 833,000 people absolutely free! Wouldn't that be helpful?
The Indian government's offer did not receive much media attention even though it ran on several news wires, but I urge you to track down India's External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and take him up on his offer on our behalf.
Under your deal, Bayer cut the price of Cipro for the government, but it hasn't cut the price for private citizens who might need to buy some down the road.
I know, I know, nobody should be taking Cipro -- or ciprofloxacin, as it is called when Bayer doesn't make it -- unless they have good reason to believe they may have been exposed. But you've said the United States needs enough medicine to treat some 10 million people if the threat worsens -- and that probably doesn't even count folks, like the governor of New York, who misguidedly take it "just to be sure."
The usual treatment requires 120 pills per person; that's 1.2 billion pills. That's a lot of Cipro, and it's unclear if Bayer can even produce that much in a short time. In fact, it seems you are already dealing with shortages, if the government's recent response to events is any clue.
When those two postal workers died of anthrax after handling Senator Daschle's mail, a whole lot of government employees had good reason to get frightened. I know there are various drugs available to treat some kinds of anthrax, but the government chose Cipro to give to postal workers, and gave some out free of charge. Good for you.
We're still a bit concerned. The postal workers in Washington were given only ten days worth of Cipro. Your colleagues on Capitol Hill were given a sixty-day supply. Is that because there are shortages of Cipro, Mr. Secretary? If Cipro's the drug you think is best in these circumstances, wouldn't it be great to have a cheaper supply -- and a whole lot of free pills -- for those who are at risk, so that everyone who needs it could get the same professionally-approved standard dose?
If we bought the pills from India, we'd only pay $20 to treat a person with a complete ciprofloxacin therapy. The government could get the same number of pills they're getting from Bayer at one-tenth of the price, and could even resell to citizens who would otherwise have to pay 28 times as much. The Bush administration's always telling us that government should be frugal, and our national budget is suddenly bleeding red ink. Don't savings like these make sense?
Besides, Mr. Thompson, from what you've said in the past about welfare, I know you are a big believer in competition and the free market. You said women who'd been receiving welfare in your home state of Wisconsin were getting soft because of too much government aid.
Bayer owns the patent on Cipro until 2003 (a drug, by the way that was pushed through the FDA by government studies and the military's endorsement), and that that patent protects their monopoly in the U.S. market. But in this emergency situation, I think Bayer should have to compete -- just like those Wisconsin women had to! -- Even with firms in India, who can produce the same product more cheaply, and get it to us fast.
We're pretty scared out here, Mr. Secretary, and we care a lot more about protecting people than corporate patents right now. Don't you?

And ::: There is Much More
Schumer and McCain are Trying
"We cannot just rely on Bayer to ensure we have a sufficient supply of Cipro," Schumer said. "First, Bayer can only produce so much Cipro, and we should not put our best response to anthrax in the hands of just one manufacturer. Second, buying Cipro only from Bayer - who charges a lot more than generic manufacturers would - means we spend a lot more and receive a lot less. Hopefully, we won't even need to use the Cipro we already have on hand, but if we make arrangements to purchase it from multiple generic drug manufacturers, we'll have it if we need it."
Schumer also called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to grant final approval to the five generic drug manufacturers who already hold tentative approvals to manufacture ciprofloxacin. Any manufacturer seeking approval solely to sell its product to the United States government can file a "paragraph IV certification" and receive clearance to begin production immediately. Denying certification could delay availability by at least 60-90 days, and since generic production of the drug will take an estimated 60-90 days before it becomes available, additional supplies of ciprofloxacin could be unavailable until April, 2002.
Schumer said that in order for any of the generic manufacturers to reach agreements with HHS, the United States would have to agree not to seek indemnification from the generic drug manufacturers if Bayer successfully sued, and would also have to agree to indemnify the manufacturers in the event Bayer successfully sued them for patent infringement. Federal law permits the United States to purchase products from manufacturers other than the patent holder, but says that the government could be liable for the patent holder's recovery of "reasonable and entire compensation for such use and manufacture." 28 U.S.C. 1498. No injunction preventing the generic manufacturers from producing ciprofloxacin and selling it to the government is available under 1498.
"Although it seems unlikely that Bayer would sue to prevent the United States from obtaining Cipro," Schumer said, "if that happens, the generic manufacturers need to be protected. Otherwise, they can't sell Cipro to the government and that puts us back to square one."
Although Bayer is the single patent holder for Cipro, the validity of its patent is in question. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is currently investigating possible anti-trust violations concerning a reported payment of over $200 million by Bayer to Barr Laboratories, the first generic drug manufacturer of ciprofloxacin to file with the FDA, to keep Barr's product off the market and avoid competing with Cipro. Bayer's payment to Barr prevents any and all generic drug manufacturers from producing ciprofloxacin until Bayer's patent expires more than two years from now.
Schumer is the author, along with Senator John McCain (R-AZ), of the Greater Access to Affordable Pharmaceuticals Act (GAAP), bipartisan legislation to improve access to generic drugs. The legislation would remove a number of obstacles currently blocking entry of many low-cost generic drugs to the market, including eliminating potential abuses of the 180-day exclusivity period granted to the first generic applicant, which has enabled Bayer to keep lower cost versions of ciprofloxacin off the market. The bill makes the exclusivity period available to the next-filed applicant if the first applicant has reached a financial settlement with the brand-name to stay out of the market until the patents have expired, fails to go to market within 90 days once their application is effective, does not get FDA approval within 30 months, fails to challenge a new patent within 60 days, withdraws their application, or is determined by the HHS Secretary to have engaged in anti-competitive activities.

Bayer Halves Price for Cipro -- But Rivals Offer Drugs Free
October 26, 2001
By KEITH BRADSHER | The New York Times
WASHINGTON - 10.25.01 | When Bayer agreed on Wednesday to sell 100 million tablets of its anthrax medicine, Cipro, to the government for 95 cents apiece, Bayer and the Bush administration said the deal assured an ample supply at a very low price.
But while Bayer nearly halved its previous price, three big pharmaceutical companies have since stepped forward to offer large quantities of their antibiotics free if the Food and Drug Administration will approve their use for the treatment of anthrax. Executives in the generic drug industry say Bayer is still at least breaking even and may even be making a large profit. And some infectious-disease experts warn that Bayer remains unable to supply enough Cipro if terrorists start releasing new strains of anthrax that are resistant to other antibiotics.
Tommy G. Thompson, the secretary of health and human services, strongly endorsed the Bayer deal today. "If you can get a company to reduce its price from $1.75, to 95 cents, for the first 100 million - and I hope that's all we'll need - then that's an excellent deal," he said.
Bayer officials did not return nearly a dozen calls for comment today, but said on Wednesday that they had happily made concessions for the good of the nation in their negotiations with Mr. Thompson.
"I was smiling going in because how often in your life do you and your company have an opportunity to make a difference," said Helge H. Wehmeier, Bayer's chief executive of American operations, who refused to discuss whether Bayer was making a profit on the deal.
Some executives in the generic drug industry, like Bruce L. Downey, the chairman and chief executive of Barr Laboratories (news/quote), say Bayer's price is comparable to what they might charge to cover their costs and make a modest profit. A few executives suggest that Bayer might even be making a large profit on the pills, because Bayer manufactures by the ton the raw material for Cipro, ciprofloxacin, and this creates considerable economies of scale.
Agnes Varis, president of Agvar Chemicals, a pharmaceutical trading company in Little Falls, N.J., said ciprofloxacin costs 12.5 cents to 20 cents a tablet in global markets. It is manufactured by dozens of factories around the world because Bayer's patent has expired in practically every country except the United States, which allows longer patents than do most countries. Cipro was approved by the F.D.A. in 1987.
The raw material can probably be manufactured by the ton by Bayer's own factories for 5 cents or less a tablet, she said. But raw materials are not the only cost. It costs another 5 to 80 cents a tablet to blend the raw material, make tablets, test them for safety and chemical stability and meet government regulations.
Patented drugs like Cipro cost far more than do generic drugs partly because pharmaceutical companies need the profits to pay for the research to discover new medicines. Bayer also agreed to supply subsequent Cipro shipments if needed at 75 cents or 85 cents apiece and to rotate inventories for freshness.
The Bayer deal on Wednesday included the donation of two million tablets beginning next week. But that offer has been quickly upstaged. Johnson & Johnson (news/quote) announced late on Wednesday that it would provide up to 100 million tablets of its Levaquin free if the F.D.A. approved its use for anthrax. Bristol-Myers Squibb (news/quote) said today that it would provide free Tequin to anyone exposed to anthrax if the F.D.A. approved it for anthrax.
Dr. Sandro K. Cinti, a specialist in infectious diseases at the University of Michigan and a member of Michigan's bioterrorism task force, said that Tequin and Levaquin were chemically very similar to Cipro and were considerably newer than Cipro. "They would be at least as effective and possibly more effective," than Cipro, he said.
GlaxoSmithKline (news/quote) also said today that it wanted the F.D.A. to approve two of its older medicines for anthrax and would provide free all the medicine the government needed to treat anthrax. Eli Lilly and Pfizer (news/quote) offered to provide drugs at cost.
"People need to know that there are drugs other than Cipro, that the supply will not be a problem and that these drugs will be available to the government at a reasonable price," said Henry A. McKinnell, chairman of Pfizer. "We don't intend to make a profit on this threat to the nation."
While the various offers of free drugs are generous, they could also benefit the companies by raising sales as the public becomes aware of their brands.
Dr. Cinti and other experts also questioned whether the government was buying enough Cipro from Bayer. Federal health officials initially recommended that anyone exposed to anthrax take two Cipro tablets a day for 60 days. But the government is now recommending that someone exposed to anthrax take only two Cipro tablets a day for 5 days and then switch to other antibiotics for 55 more days if laboratory technicians decide that the type of anthrax is vulnerable to other antibiotics.
Federal officials say all the anthrax discovered so far is vulnerable to all antibiotics. But lingering concerns remain about what became of the special strains of anthrax created by the Soviet Union, which bred them to be resistant to antibiotics available in the 1970's and 80's.
Kenneth F. Bastow, associate professor of pharmacy at the University of North Carolina, said Cipro and similar medicines like Tequin and Levaquin were most likely to be effective against any strain of anthrax. "Of all the strains of anthrax that are known, and there are lots, resistance to Cipro has never been documented, while resistance to some of these others has been," he said.
Health officials say more than 10,000 Americans are taking Cipro now, including 7,600 in Washington alone, mostly postal workers. The postal workers are being given 10- day supplies of Cipro, not 5-day supplies, partly because the pills are commonly shipped in packs of 20.
With the Bayer deal, the nation will have 120 million Cipro pills in government stockpiles by the end of the year. Mr. Thompson said this is enough for 12 million Americans, but this is true only if each person takes the medicine for only five days. If doses were ever needed for 60 days, or 120 tablets a person, then the stockpile would be adequate for only a million people.
Dr. Cinti said people should not take Cipro unless prescribed for actual exposure to anthrax. The powerful medicine is used to treat pneumonia and blood infections in critically ill patients in hospitals' intensive- care units, but if too many Americans take it, these ailments will develop resistance to Cipro, he said.

And ::: No WMD, but lots of OIL
And ::: What Pipeline?
Pipe Dream Scheme
One Hundred Fifth Congress Second Session
February 12, 1998
John J. Maresca, VP of International Relations, UNOCAL Corporation's address to the U.S. Congress:
" I would like to focus today on three issues: First, the need for multiple pipeline routes for Central Asian oil and gas resources. Second, the need for U.S. support for international and regional efforts to achieve balanced and lasting political settlements to the conflicts in the region, including Afghanistan. Third, the need for structured assistance to encourage economic reforms and the development of appropriate investment climates in the region. In this regard, we specifically support repeal or removal of section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.
Mr. Chairman, the Caspian region contains tremendous untapped hydrocarbon reserves. Just to give an idea of the scale, proven natural gas reserves equal more than 236 trillion cubic feet. The region's total oil reserves may well reach more than 60 billion barrels of oil. Some estimates are as high as 200 billion barrels. In 1995, the region was producing only 870,000 barrels per day. By 2010, western companies could increase production to about 4.5 million barrels a day, an increase of more than 500 percent in only 15 years. If this occurs, the region would represent about 5 percent of the world's total oil production.
One major problem has yet to be resolved: how to get the region's vast energy resources to the markets where they are needed. Central Asia is isolated. Their natural resources are landlocked, both geographically and politically. Each of the countries in the Caucasus and Central Asia faces difficult political challenges. Some have unsettled wars or latent conflicts. Others have evolving systems where the laws and even the courts are dynamic and changing. In addition, a chief technical obstacle which we in the industry face in transporting oil is the region's existing pipeline infrastructure."

Startling UFO disclosure ::: James Woolsey ::: and the PNAC
Link supplied to the front door because it is such a well designed site ::: PNAC Home Page PNAC is a great site to surf ... lots of heavy mind blowing, make no bones about it, neo-rhetoric and great animated MAPS.
For some time I have been slogging through the weighty pages of a now famous
document from The Project for the New American Century ::: PNAC.
In September 2000, PNAC, a well known Washington think tank, produced a
lengthy 90 page .pdf document entitled, Rebuliding America's Defenses. This
document is quite an interesting read, full of rabid neocons with lofty ideals
and a bonus NWO (global) agenda
On pages iv and v of the Introduction is a box detailing and
establishing the core mission for U. S. military forces. Within this
shaded box (text only copied into blog below) are recommendations from
PNAC to provide sufficient force and bugetary allocations to do the job right.
The first FOUR core missions sound familiar, as do many
other sections, especially the proposed budgetary increases for defense
spending.
BUT ::: for this blog, pay particular attention to the section on "Internatiional
Commons". Then click right over to The Disclosure Project Web Cast of a teaser
section from the National Press Club Conference Video ::: an introduction to a
sort of "coming clean" on UFOs. This comes from the CSETI Website - Disclosure Project.
ESTABLISH FOUR CORE MISSIONS for U.S. military forces:
• defend the American homeland;
• fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theater wars;
• perform the “constabulary” duties associated with shaping the security environment in
critical regions;
• transform U.S. forces to exploit the “revolution in military affairs;”
To carry out these core missions, we need to provide sufficient force and budgetary
allocations. In particular, the United States must:
MAINTAIN NUCLEAR STRATEGIC SUPERIORITY, basing the U.S. nuclear deterrent upon a
global, nuclear net assessment that weighs the full range of current and emerging threats,
not merely the U.S.-Russia balance.
RESTORE THE PERSONNEL STRENGTH of today’s force to roughly the levels anticipated in
the “Base Force” outlined by the Bush Administration, an increase in active-duty strength
from 1.4 million to 1.6 million.
REPOSITION U.S. FORCES to respond to 21st century strategic realities by shifting
permanently-based forces to Southeast Europe and Southeast Asia, and by changing naval
deployment patterns to reflect growing U.S. strategic concerns in East Asia.
Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century
MODERNIZE CURRENT U.S. FORCES SELECTIVELY, proceeding with the F-22 program while
increasing purchases of lift, electronic support and other aircraft; expanding submarine
and surface combatant fleets; purchasing Comanche helicopters and medium-weight
ground vehicles for the Army, and the V-22 Osprey “tilt-rotor” aircraft for the Marine
Corps.
CANCEL “ROADBLOCK” PROGRAMS such as the Joint Strike Fighter, CVX aircraft carrier,
and Crusader howitzer system that would absorb exorbitant amounts of Pentagon funding
while providing limited improvements to current capabilities. Savings from these canceled
programs should be used to spur the process of military transformation.
DEVELOP AND DEPLOY GLOBAL MISSILE DEFENSES to defend the American homeland and
American allies, and to provide a secure basis for U.S. power projection around the world.
CONTROL THE NEW “INTERNATIONAL COMMONS” OF SPACE AND “CYBERSPACE,” and pave
the way for the creation of a new military service – U.S. Space Forces – with the mission of
space control.
EXPLOIT THE “REVOLUTION IN MILITARY AFFAIRS” to insure the long-term superiority of
U.S. conventional forces. Establish a two-stage transformation process which
• maximizes the value of current weapons systems through the application of advanced
technologies, and,
• produces more profound improvements in military capabilities, encourages competition
between single services and joint-service experimentation efforts.
INCREASE DEFENSE SPENDING gradually to a minimum level of 3.5 to 3.8 percent of gross
domestic product, adding $15 billion to $20 billion to total defense spending annually.
And Then ::: Check out Fmr. CIA Driector James Woolsey re: 1993 briefing.
Next ::: back to CSETI for an audio account by Retired Brigadier General Stephen Lovekin, who served under Eisenhower and Kennedy, had top secret clearance, and details the significant danger inherent in the community trusted with knowledge and the cover up. He speaks of people being erased ... and don't we all wonder about Forrestal's alleged suicide and the confiscation of his papers ... and how the revelation of such technology would destroy our economy.
Exerpt :::
I think that what we are dealing with is certain electromagnetic devices that are powered by sources that we just don't quite understand as of yet - well, we are certainly not advertising them anyway. But, these devices would generate free power. And free power would be something that corporations panic about. I think this government panics about it…
But, at some point in time we are going to have to share this information that would allow us to have free energy. The government knows about this. It is foolish for them to try to make the rest of us look like imbeciles and say that this can't happen. Well, it can happen.
And for the real scoop and an incredibly long read that will blow your mind ::: for a description of these Scalar Weapons, Free Energy, Tesla Death Ray, etc. This site is a remarkable trip through the world of Electromagnetics, Woodpecker Grid, Mind Control, Curing and Inducing of Disease.

Foreign news sources have reported that execution chambers are under construction.
Bush and Rumsfeld are said to be deciding who the lucky ones are to be tried in this
mockery of "justice."
Defense deputy gets authority for military tribunals.
And who could that executioner be?
The one, the only, the unhonorable, the dissembling, and the anti-constitution autocrat,
Paul Wolfowitz. He will run the military tribunals in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, or wherever
else outside the US Rumsfeld chooses to try these poor souls.
Wolfowitz will exercise key powers in the commission process. After the chief military
prosecutor drafts charges against a prisoner , Wolfowitz will "approve" the charges and
send the detainee to trial. So he has already served as chief prosecutor, grand jury,
and presiding judge.
As appointing authority, he also will select military officers to sit on commissions. If
commission members cannot resolve matters related to procedures, motions or facts,
Wolfowitz will make the final decision. There you go, a judge again. The article did
not say that Wolfowitz would carry out the executions.
How Could This Happen?
A criminal court created by Bush, run by the Pentagon, and with
"laws" drafted in consort with Ashcroft, Chertoff, and minions at the Department
of Justice. The trials will be in secret. The chief defense attorney is a reluctant
officer who had been praying for the prosecutor's position (won't he give some zealous

swear a vow of allegiance to Rumsfeld, of course, agree to a lifetime gag order, and
stand by while certain proceedings against his client are held in secret, out

Just cause I always loved Robert Heinlein
Books I Love 1
Thanks to serenejournal for suggesting, in passing, a daily list: books I love. The first has to be Stranger in a Strange Land. The satire hit me first, then the sex, then the Eastern religion. Yes, I know that it's flawed, but the good stuff remains. Heinlein was a Trickster, whose two desires were to make money and make people think. He certainly succeeded with the latter, as far as I am concerned. (And I bought all his books.)
I append a list I did for alt.poly on "Good things about Robert Heinlein, besides the obvious":
"Man, as a social animal, can no more escape government than the individual can escape bondage to his bowels."
"Thou Art God": the Martian blasphemy that's also Eastern wisdom.
His innocent observer of Terran culture learned a valuable lesson about humanity from seeing a monkey hit a smaller monkey, who in turn hit a still smaller one.
Long before the 80s, he told a story in which the "amiable nullity" who led the free world was actually controlled by his wife's astrologer.
He said that Mother's Day is an excuse to peddle the sexual organs of plants.
In one book, he had a character who labored to make things better for all those billions of people because "their lives may not have cosmic significance, but they have feelings. They can hurt." That may or may not have expressed Heinlein's own beliefs at the time, but it perfectly represents the condescension of liberals and their equally genuine compassion. (I am a liberal.)
"-Suppose we are all different parts of the same record, being played at different times and in different places-" (Letter to Theodore Sturgeon)
The taboo against cannibalism is a good idea because we’re not civilized, so it’s nice to have one fewer way that people prey on each other.
"When Robert Heinlein invented the term 'grok' to mean simultaneously know, eat, embrace, make love to and incorporate, he was invoking the secret logic of all writing, and the reason it is so comforting to write"--Donna Minkowitz
"waldoes": devices that enable one to pick up and manipulate parts of the physical world without actually touching them. He left it to the reader to realize that the three greatest waldoes are language, mathematics, and science.
Astrology is nowhere near being a science, but a perceptive astrologer can use its symbols as a guiding metaphor to interpret people. (I doubt that it’s much worse than other social sciences. I’d much rather trust my psyche to a good astrologer than a bad Freudian.)
understanding scientific method and using it where it works, but also being able to express nonmaterialistic approaches without sounding like _The Weekly World News_.
and of course the invaluable intellectual exercise in recognizing the many areas in which he was utterly full of shit.

From the above link at The Heritage Foundation come the following pearls of wisdom:

The Journal referenced a General Motors Corp. internal analysis showing GM would save $1.4 billion by dropping retiree coverage.
Why would GM, or any other company, invest in prescription drugs if it doesn't have to? Companies will be only too happy to hand over the millions of seniors they currently cover to the government. That's why the UAW and the AFL-CIO issued statements opposing this bill.
In fact, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that 37 percent of seniors who are presently covered by their employer would lose their coverage. That's 4.4 million seniors.

***Tennessee is worried Medicare will either not pay us a fee for service or
fee will not be sufficient. The language states, "Medicare would be able to
pay a dispensing fee to licensed approved pharmacies ..." Who knows what PBMs
will do with this language ... pharmacists guess possibly not even a penny fee.
***Seniors will be encouraged to use mail order service rather than local pharmacies.
***Seniors will be "locked in" to certain pharmacies ... probably CHAIN pharmacies
***Pharmacies want full disclosure of PBM Rebates from drug companies, etc
***Some cards for low income seniors would require pharmacies to accept AWP
(average wholesale price) less 20%. Many pharmacies get NO discount on narcotic
Rxs at all.
Ok fellow bloggers, that should bore everyone to tears and make certain no one visits my site

Below ::: Email sent to Senator Frist and Alexander today :::
Pretty cramped, but they only allow appx 1000 words ... I guess that is so ALL the
daming evidence will not fit in one email. I suppose that would be a stomach churning read.
To: Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander
Senator ...
Republicans - not a great track record:
1)Thousands of Florida voters - disenfranchised from lists provided by the same idiots who hired felons for TSA.
2)Within 3 days of inaugural, Bush wipes away regs against price gouging and profiteering put in place by Clinton - Calif power crisis, you think?
3)Prior to 9-11, Bush ignored a storm of fairly specific warnings of imminent attack on lower Manhattan. Decided to chop wood instead.
4)Nashville 8-26-3: Cheney said Iraq seeking materials for its nuclear program.
5)11-26-3, Rice said aluminum tubes only suitable for uranium enrichment centrifuges.DOE scientists said NO.
6)Used yellow cake forgery docs from Niger to scare us further.
7)Powell takes one look at evidence presented by Libby and Rumsfeld boys, tossed material in air saying, "I'm not reading this. This is bullshit."
8)Powell misled into using dossier plagerized from grad student from 1991.
Americans were shocked when no weapons were found, and want an independent investigation despite Pat Roberts and FBI brush off.
Looking for integrity in government!
